'59 Is Turning 50

On April 1st 2009 EAA Chapter 59 will be 50 years old.

Hello, Welcome to our EAA Chapter 59 web site. I hope you will find your visit interesting and enjoyable.
This web site is dedicated to the sport of aviation, flying and building airplanes, and being around other people who enjoy these same types of interests. "EAA Chapters mean flying, friendship, and fun! Get involved."

EAA Chapter 59 and Monty Suffern's now famous
Hangars & Ragtime!
A perfect combination

If you have never attended one of these piano concerts in a hanger, you have no idea what you've been missing. And since there is no way to accurately describe it, you simply have to be there to believe it.
Download the brochure and get your tickets right here.

Now you can take an FAA Safety review right here on our EAA Chapter 59 web site. Click here for more info and get your skills back up to par.

UNREGISTERED ULTRALIGHTS MAY HAVE TO BE SCRAPPED
For those 2,000 to 3,000 two-place ultralights whose owners have not bothered to convert to the Experimental Light Sport category, the end is near. If two-place ultralights are not registered and certificated by Jan. 31 as experimental light sport aircraft, or placed in the Amateur-Built or the Experimental Exhibition categories, they cannot be legally flown again until certificated. Scrapping them may be the only solution if such certification is not completed. The paperwork must be in the FAA system, not simply postmarked, by Jan. 31. In other words, you need to submit it immediately. See AOPA Online.

A Return of the General meetings
On Tuesday Oct 30th, 2007 The Board of Directors of EAA Chapter 59 voted to change the dates and times of the BOD meetings to the 3rd Tuesday of each month and to include a chapter 59 members general meeting to be held directly after the BOD meetings.
This is a return to the form and style of the meetings that we held back before we built the hanger, like it was back at Joe Nemmers.
The 3rd Tuesday schedule was selected to prevent any conflicts with our very important Thursday Lunch Bunch and also the 1st Saturday Pancake Breakfast activities that have become so vital to the support of our facility.
We hope that this will provide a must greater opportunity for chapter membership to attend and get involved in chapter activities.

This new BOD and General meeting schedule will begin in December when the Chapter 59 Christmas party has been scheduled for the 3rd Tuesday of December.
For more information refer to the EVENTS page.

PROPOSAL FOR CHAPTER PROJECT
We have a proposal being developed for the chapter to build an aircraft.
This could be a very important step for Chapter 59.
For information and details take a look at the web site Kenny Grisham has posted on Google interactive Doc & Spreadsheets, here.
This is an active web page where you can enter your comments and thoughts.
Please join in, this is YOUR chapter, get involved.
Here's a look at what the project might be.

Up Coming Events

As with any organization that depends on a volunteer membership EAA Chapter 59 is always looking for ways to improve and offer more of what brings its members together.
Kenny Grisham has created a web page where anyone can access and even enter their own ideas about what they (that's you) would like to see within our chapter.
Just click on the link here and read what others have entered so far.
You'll have to join the group to enter but it's free.

Chapter 59 is trying to create the first Central Texas Aviation Training Facility and you can help.
This facility will establish an EAA Chapter 59 Headquarters for the first time in our chapter history.
Plus it will encompass a full range of youth education and aviation training programs and activities.
Central Texas and specifically the Waco area is rapidly becoming the hub of aviation in the southwest.
The number of high tech aviation companies in the region is increasing faster than any other part of the country. We want to help make sure that our young people are the best equipped and most knowledgeable workforce possible to help support this industry growth. And at the same time we can help ensure a healthy future for Sport and General aviation.
Click on this link to read more and to see how you can help Chapter 59 develop the EAA Chapter 59 Headquarters and Aviation Training Facility.

May 11th, 2003 New information and details on the Hanger project.

June 2002; GOOD NEWS !

The EAA Chapter 59 membership voted on Tuesday, June 4th, 2002 to accept the lease contract with the City of McGregor to acquire a parcel of land at the McGregor Airport for the purposes of building a Chapter 59 hanger and activities center.

Under the terms of the lease contract the name of the new facility will be "EAA Chapter 59 Aviation Training Facility"
The lease contract must now be presented to the City of McGregor for approval by the City Counsel.

According to the terms of the lease construction of the facility could begin as early as this fall but will probably take a few more years. The City intends to build an extension to one of the existing taxi ways sometime in 2003. The new EAA Chapter 59 Aviation Training Facility will be built at the end of that new taxi way. According to the lease, we will have an additional 18 months after the completion of the new taxi way to begin construction.

EAA Chapter 59 has already begun fund raising activities to secure the funding required to complete the project. Under our current 501-C3 tax exempt status donations provided to the Chapter are tax deductible.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

On July 8th, 2002 The City Counsel for the City of McGregor voted to accept and approve the contract for the EAA Chapter 59 Aviation Training Facility.

Be sure to follow the progress of this project closely as this project and a "Home at the airport" for our chapter has been a dream for many many years.
